Thrilling details -- packing for vacation

Getting ready for planned vacation, to commence on or about Saturday, July 11, 2009, resort check-in time: 4pm. Getting ready means "I sure hope there is no hurricane that week and that there is no medical emergency or other untoward event which would prevent me from going." That is what it means.

Packing completed: socks, underwear, 1pr black jeans, 1pr khakis, a snap-top shirt, two snap-top 50SPF sungear tops, a rashguard shirt for swimming (SPF50), black crocs, a hat(SPF50),some t-shirts, jammies, brustenhalter(s)...let's see: new clogs. Anything else I might need (like dark indigo jeans)....I can just wear....en route. Half of this stuff isn't even needed.

Books: same as last year, to re-read: Royko's Boss (Book about Mayor Richard Daley), Mendell's bio of Obama, Robert Putnam's Bowling Alone,(a sociology work), and a book on Torts. Plus some paper, pens and pencils. A lot of them. I wonder if there is a "Pearl's Art Supply Store" in [redacted].

I would like a new camera, but that is really not at all necessary....it's just, you know, I like gizmos. Last year I would have thought that for sure that by this year I would have a laptop. Nope.

That is all.

Now I remember. "Parkington Shopping Center," since it was completely bulldozed and re-done a decade or two ago.....is now called "Ballston Commons" or "Ballston Commons Galleria."

There was a civil war battle fought close to there, surprisingly. (Surprisingly because it is rather close to DC.) It was called, "the Battle of Ballston Crossing." No, wait. Well, I forget what it is called now, but I know I saw a bronze plaque near the shopping mall about a civil war battle right in that neighborhood, but I can't find it on Wikipedia right now.

So hey, guess what?

There is a new listing for a one bedroom at Hyde Park: unit 413. I have seen several one bedrooms at HP ....they're very spacious (916 sq ft,) have full balconies with floor-to-ceiling windows......this one is listed at $295,000. HP has a three-level underground parking garage with secure entry, a 24-hour desk attendant, of course a pool.......also the building has a grocery and a beauty salon. And of course it's walking distance to the Ballston Metro stop (Orange line)......and what used to be called the Parkington Shopping Center (think they call it a Galleria)...has a Macy's, theaters.....you know.

Darn. Let's see.....what can I do to earn $295,000? There must be something. Can't be a spy, cause I don't look like Victoria Plame/Victoria Wilson.....looking like Victoria Silvstedt would be nice, but never mind that. Hm. Invent something? Somebody already invented "Heely's." Art work? You know, like the guy who took the Obama photo and made it into a lithograph?....I could do something like that. Or, I would like to write and direct a movie, like "Fog of War." That would be cool. Yes, but then I would have to come up with an idea for a documentary, and I don't really have one right now. Dang.

Excerpt from Today's Diary:

20:12 hours

Spent a lot of today’s ‘prime hours’ cleaning up the (room I work in), specifically the computer area which included rearranging some wires, moving the Dell 2400 and its monitor into the other room (heavy); vacuuming and dusting.

[Redacted] which is when I did the kitchen chores). At the same time as the kitchen chores, I watched a hearing on C-SPAN about service men’s experiences in Afghanistan. This was actually a repeat of a hearing I had seen a month or two ago, held before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, chaired by Senator John Kerry.
